The rural Municipality of the District of Shelburne is a unique coastal community. We are rich in cultural, historic, economic and natural diversity. Together with our diverse roots, fishing industries, small business economy, community services and self-reliance we have shaped our character. Our Municipality offers you fine white sand beaches, a rugged coastline and headlands, wilderness, forests, artisans, independent professional service businesses and a diversified, marine focused economy. You can canoe or camp along our lakes and rivers, paddle or surf in the ocean, sail in our harbour, tee off at our spectacular 18 hole golf course, walk or ride our extensive trail system or sit back and do some bird watching. It is a quality of life that complements professionals, retirees and working family's lifestyles.

The Municipality of Shelburne is made up of many long-established communities, it extends along Highway 103 from Granite Village (km125) at Queen's County line in the east to Clyde River (km 70) bordering the Municipality of Barrington in the west. Its villages are accessed off the Highway 103 from exits 23 to 28. We have 4828 citizens within 683 sq. miles (1020 sq. kilometers) along the South West shore of Nova Scotia. It was incorporated in 1855 and is one of five municipal units in Shelburne County and lies in the eastern part of the County. Our municipality surrounds the Towns of Lockeport and Shelburne. Shelburne is 2 ½ hours by road from Halifax. It is also easily accessible by sea and by private or charter plane to Yarmouth airport.

The municipality has invested in the infrastructure, services and sustainable initiatives necessary for attractive business investment opportunities in our communities. You can view our planned development on this website. We invite you to come and give your soul a rest from the hustle and bustle of urban life, where you, your children and workmates can enjoy super, natural Shelburne County at your own pace.

On behalf of all of the citizens of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all visitors and businesses to our area. We feel that we enjoy a quality, pace and contentment of life that is second to none. We offer this to you. It is our sincere hope that you will have an enjoyable and memorable experience and will keep in touch with us.
