The Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, in open meeting assembled, enacts as follows:

1. Title
    This Policy may be cited for all purposes as the “MUNICIPAL BINS POLICY”.
2. Interpretation
    In this Policy, unless the context requires otherwise:

“MUNICIPALITY” means Municipality of the District of Shelburne.

“COUNCIL” means the Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne.

“ORGANIZATION” means any organization used by the public and approved by Council as a community organization and includes the following: community centres, fire halls, etc.

“PRIVATE ROAD AND LANE” means a road or allowance which is not vested in the Municipality according to law.

3. Regulations
  3.1 Municipal bin placement shall comply with any policy set by Council in respect to the Solid Waste Management and Collection Program of the Municipality.
  3.2 Municipal bins for organizations shall be provided through the Municipality’s Operating Fund.
  3.3 Municipal bins servicing private roads and lanes shall be provided through the Municipality’s Operating Fund where there are four (4) or more permanently occupied residences that are serviced by a private road, upon recommendation of the Council.
  3.4 Municipal bins provided by the Municipality shall be maintained and repaired by the Municipality. The cleanliness of the bin shall be the responsibility of the organization or residents serviced by the bin.
4. Amendment or Repeal
    Any one or more of the orders contained in this policy may be temporarily or permanently suspended by an affirmative vote of the majority of all Council members with at least seven (7) days notice being given to all Council members.
