I grew up in Halifax-Dartmouth and moved here in 1967. After graduating from Shelburne Regional High School, I attended Dalhousie University for two years, before I married Danny Holmes and raised four children with him in Jordan Falls and Middle Ohio, where we live today. In these times of out-migration, I am fortunate to have one daughter, Lisa, and her son, Benjamin, living in the area. Samantha is in Musquodoboit Harbour, Anna inYukon Territory and Bernie, Harvey Station, New Brunswick.

For 20 years, as reporter for The Coast Guard newspaper, I wrote stories about Shelburne County’s people, places and events.

I have a passion for our beautiful Shelburne County outdoors, a love of gardening, canoeing, walking and other forms of recreation. My love of swimming inspired me to form the Shelburne County Recreation Society last year, which is striving to establish a recreation centre, including an indoor swimming pool, in Shelburne County.

I am an active member of the Middle/Upper Ohio Fire Department and the Lower Ohio Union Church.
