Councillor Doris Townsend was elected to Municipal Council in 2008 to represent District #1 which includes the communities of Beaverdam, Clyde River, Port Saxon, Northeast and Northwest Harbour, Ingomar and Round Bay. 

Doris grew up on Cape Sable Island and attended Barrington Municipal High School, graduating in 1982.  In 1989, Doris established her home residence in Port Saxon and has lived there ever since.  In 1990-91, she attended NSCC and graduated with an accounting course and has taken various computer skills upgrades, etc., to keep current with changing technology.  In 1997, Doris took a home studies course on personal and business taxation to get a better understanding of tax implications.  This has evolved into a small home business endeavour.  Doris currently works as a Dockside Monitor, which is a recording agent for NS Department of Fisheries & Oceans.
