JULY COUNCIL SUMMARY
The Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne approved the following business at July’s Council Meeting:
Council Supports Founders Days
Council approved a $5000 non repayable contribution to host Founders Days. Founders Days is managed by a Committee of Council and the Municipality of Shelburne is the lead government in the organization of the event.
Council Establishes Area Rate For New Emergency Vehicle in Sable River
Council will establish an area rate tax of $0.053 per $100.00 of assessment to be levied on the property owners serviced by the Sable River Volunteer Fire Department. Funds are to be used solely to service the debt for a maximum of ten years and to acquire an emergency response vehicle.
Council Supports SWSDA Volunteer Program
Council guarantees a contribution be made to the South West Shore Volunteer Coordinator Program in the amount of $3,035.00.
Council Supports the Sale of Land to the West Green Harbour Recreation Association
The property known as the St. Peter’s Anglican Church Hall, West Green Harbour will be purchased from the Anglican Church for the sum of $1.00. Pursuant to section 51(3) of the MGA, a public meeting will be held respecting a proposed sale or lease of the property to the West Green Harbour Recreation Association.
Council Adopts a New Low Income Tax Exemption Policy
Council has accept the following draft policy for low income property tax exemption and that it be reviewed annually.
Council for the Municipality of the Districk of Shelburne is desirous of providing a property tax exemption to those families with low income in the Municipality. Following are teh terms and conditions being offered.

A property tax exemption of up to $150.00 may be available to a property tax owner. |
| 2. |
To qualify, the property owners total gross income from all sources, including the income of other family members residing in the household, must be less then $18,000.00 in the immediately preceding calendar year. |
| 3. |
The individula must be assessed fro all or a portion of the property and it must be their place of residence. |
| 4. |
Applicants must be willing to sign an affidavit giving detailes of household income, suck forms to be supplied by the Municipality. |
| 5. |
Applications must be filed by August 30 each year that the exemption is being applied for. |
Council Supports the Physician Recruitment Committee
Council supported the following motion which includes an immediate contribution to the Committee of $3500:

That Council support the efforts of the physician recruitment committee by working with the committee in developing a sustainable physician recruitment strategy with particular focus on developing a new medical clinic as a base for new doctors. |
| 2) |
That Council encourage the physician recruitment committee to develop partnerships with other levels of government and organizations for short-term and long-term funding requirements. |
| 3) |
That Council agree to $3,500 for marketing and urge the development of the strategy and the development of the clinic; monies to be taken from various grant programs. |
Council Agrees to Continue Ownership and Management of the Albert Acker Memorial Field
The Municipality of the District of Shelburne will write a letter to the Town of Shelburne advising that it wishes to retain its share of the ownership of the Albert Acker Memorial Field and share 50/50 with the Town of Shelburne on the maintenance to bring the field up to an acceptable standard for use to remain as a green space.
Council Continues to Support County Tourism Development Coordinator
Council reiterated its support for the development of a Tourism Development Coordinator for Shelburne County. The Municipality will continue to work with SWSDA and the other municipal units to develop funding arrangements and job descriptions.
MDS will negotiate with Nova Scotia Government to purchase Industrial Park Land
Council has asked staff to negotiate the purchase of vacant lands located within the Shelburne Industrial Park. The land is currently owned by Nova Scotia Business Inc.
