MUNICIPALITY OF SHELBURNE ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

SHELBURNE - The Council for the Municipality of the District of Shelburne approved investments for two local economic development projects at the regular meeting of Council for February. The two projects are the Agriculture Climate Data Project and the Creative Economy Project. Both of these projects are partnerships with other levels of government and community organizations.
The Agriculture Climate Data Project is a regional project led by the southwest Nova CBDC’s and will gather important detailed climate information for the agriculture sector including the cranberry and blueberry sectors. The Municipality of Shelburne has identified the facilitation of industry development in these sectors a key priority in our Integrated Community Sustainability Plan.
The Creative Economy Project is a capacity building project will develop a strategy to grow a creative economy in Shelburne County. This project is a partnership with the ALIA Institute, Shelburne CBDC, the Nova Scotia Community College, the Nova Scotia Department of Economic Development and Tourism, and the Government of Canada’s Rural Secretariat.
Council also approved the following:
- Transferring the West Green Harbour Hall to a community organization based in West Green Harbour.
- Forwarding a funding proposal for the Shelburne County Arena to upcoming budget deliberations.
