Shelburne County 55+ Games Feature Expanded Format

Shelburne County residents in the 55+ age category are invited to participate in sociable competition with old and new friends. The fun kicks off on Saturday September 19th at 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Islands Provincial Park just outside the Town of Shelburne with a FREE barbecue and games – just a taste of what September 29 – October 3 has to offer. Auction 45’s, Crib, Geo Caching, Nordic Walking, Bowling, Golf, Yoga, Horseshoes, Seniors Dance/55+ Games Idol, Hockey, Curling, Volleyball, and much more will be held throughout the County finishing off with an Awards Banquet and Entertainment on October 3rd at the Shelburne Legion. Register with your local Shelburne County Recreation Departments and Volunteer Services on or before September 19th at the FREE Islands Park Picnic. The registration fee of $5.00 for the Games has remained the same since they started 22 years ago! For more information call 875-3544 ext. 225

- Lieutenant Governor Community Spirit Award
Congratulation to the Town of Canso & Eastern Guysborough County, Portland Estates & Hills in Dartmouth, and Sable River, the Lieutenant Governor Community Spirit Award recipients for 2010!

- Nova Scotia Power Energy Efficiency Program
Nova Scotia Power has recently launched a new energy efficiency program for low-income homeowners who heat with electricity. This program provides free home insulation upgrades and other energy efficiency upgrades to qualifying participants who:
- Live on a low income; Income requirements based on Statistics Canada LICO (Low Income Cut-off) criteria
- Are a homeowner, and
- Heat their home with electricity.
