As per the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulations, effective January 1, 2009 the following will be required for Building Permit Applications:

Site Plan: which includes a foot print of the proposed project, building distance from property line and location of all other buildings on the property;

Set of detailed Building Plans: which includes building elevations, floor plan, size & spacing of framing members, size & location of windows & doors and drawings to include footing & foundation size & placement, floor assembly construction details and wall & roof assembly details;

Approvals from required department: which include Development Permits, Department of Environment and/or Department of Transportation; and
-
Completed Application forms including necessary fees.
Applications submitted without the necessary information will not be accepted until properly submitted

WHEN IS A BUILDING PERMIT NOT REQUIRED?
- Accessory Buildings not greater than 20 square meters (215.2 square feet) and not more than 1 storey in height;
- Interior and exterior renovations non-structural material alterations and material repairs with a monetary value of $5,000.00 or less; and
- Replacement or installation of new plumbing fixture that does not increase the hydraulic load of the drainage system or required alterations to an existing water distribution system or drainage system.
You should always inquire with the Inspection Department before any type of construction begins. All construction minor or other must meet the requirements of the National Building Code. |
