• KEEP IT DRY: Store your cart in a dry area away from weather. Exposure to rain or snow will allow water to collect inside your cart causing it to freeze making it very difficult even impossible to empty during collection. To avoid damaging carts Collection Staff will not apply extra force to frozen organics during collection.
• LINE YOUR CART: Lining your cart will act as a barrier between the cart and your organic waste, this will keep waste from freezing to the sides of your cart.
• IF YOU HAVE TO: While we prefer paper bags, some customers may still want to use bio-degradable plastic liners. For now, we will only accept those liners bearing the following logo, proving Biodegradable Products Institute standards:
• WRAP IT UP: It helps to wrap particularly wet food scraps in newspaper before placing it in your cart. Newspaper absorbs extra moisture
• FREEZE IT: While it may not appeal to everyone, you can store well-wrapped organic waste separately in the deep freeze and place the frozen organics in your green cart on collection day. This will keep wet organic waste from freezing to the sides of the cart.
• KEEP IT CLEAR: please ensure that green carts are easily accessible to collection staff and free of obstructing snow banks.
