Subject: Consolidation
The Municipality of the District of Shelburne acknowledges the potential within our district and the neighboring Towns of Shelburne and Lockeport, as we embark on an exploratory journey that seeks to foster unity. Our region boasts a rich tapestry of history, diverse geography, thriving businesses and vibrant community groups, all contributing to our distinct character.
What sets us apart and binds us together is the interconnectedness we share. Our residents seamlessly collaborate, sharing essential services like fire protection, waste management, sewer and water systems, as well as enjoying the pleasures of recreation and community events. We frequent each other’s municipalities to benefit from services such as schools, libraries, grocery stores, gas stations, parks, trails, museums, and the invaluable contributions of numerous community organizations.
In recognition of our shared history and the interdependence of our daily lives, the Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, along with the Councils of the Towns of Shelburne and Lockeport, have taken a step forward and agreed to explore the concept of consolidation. This exploration is not a commitment to consolidation but an acknowledgment that we are examining the potential benefits while preserving our unique identities.
Throughout this process, Council remains committed to engaging with our communities at every step, ensuring that any ultimate decision is made by thoroughly considering and consulting with our communities. We will explore the potential advantages and challenges that consolidation could bring to our community. Together, we can celebrate our distinctive characters while considering the aspirations and collective voice of our residents in shaping our shared future.
