Earlier this year, the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, along with the Towns of Shelburne and Lockeport, agreed to explore the concept of consolidation to examine the potential benefits.

Municipal consolidation is a complex issue, and consolidating our three units is a significant undertaking that requires careful consideration and ample time investment, particularly in navigating the initial stages of the process.

After further review of the required timeline to properly explore the pros and cons of consolidation, we have made the joint decision to press pause and defer our discussions until after the upcoming election when new councils are in place.

From the beginning, our goal has been to foster transparency in our discussions and ensure that all residents are well-informed and involved. We do not want to rush the necessary exploration and dialogue required to make an informed decision that is in the best interest of our community.

Moving forward, we remain committed to engaging in discussions about the potential benefits and challenges of consolidation as we explore whether consolidation can enhance the economy and quality of life for the residents in our community, all while preserving our unique identities
