In the fall of 2024, the Government of Canada launched the Housing Accelerator Fund 2 to support local governments in implementing transformative changes to increase housing supply.
The Municipality has been awarded $1.54 million to execute its Housing Action Plan, with a goal of achieving a Housing Supply Growth Target of 40 net new residential units over the next three years.
To drive progress toward this target, the Municipality has developed a comprehensive HAF 2 Housing Action Plan, which includes the following five key strategic initiatives:
- Surplus Lands Program for Affordable Housing – Identifying and utilizing surplus municipal lands to support affordable housing development.
- Community Improvement Plan – Enhancing policies and programs to encourage housing growth and community revitalization.
- E-Permitting Services – Streamlining the development approval process through digital permitting systems.
- Pre-Approved Housing Design Catalogue – Offering a selection of pre-approved housing designs to expedite construction.
- Housing Incentives Program – Introducing financial and policy incentives to stimulate residential development.
These initiatives reflect the Municipality’s commitment to fostering sustainable housing growth and addressing local housing needs.
Stay tuned as we roll out these initiatives and work toward a stronger, more vibrant Shelburne!
