In addition to meetings of Council, Councillors sit on a number of community boards and committees. To ensure community involvement, knowlege and understanding of the area’s priorities and challenges, our Councillors dedicate their time and effort to represent the Municipality of Shelburne on these boards and committees.

Note: The warden is ex-officio member of all committees, but is not a voting member in such capacity on advisory committees.

Definition of Committee Meetings (MGA s.22(1))

A meeting of a committee appointed by Council is presumptively open to the public pursuant to section 22(1) of the Municipal Government Act.

This applies whether:

  • The committee is composed entirely of councillors,
  • A mix of councillors and citizens, or
  • Citizens only.

A committee meeting may only be closed to the public where:

  • A specific statutory in camera exemption applies, and
  • Proper procedure is followed.

Amalgamation Steering Committee

The Amalgamation Steering Committee explores the feasibility, impacts, opportunities, and challenges of amalgamating the Municipality of Shelburne, Town of Shelburne, and Town of Lockeport.

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee supports Council in overseeing the quality and integrity of financial reporting.

Eastern Shelburne County Accessibility Advisory Committee

The role of the AAC is to advise municipal councils on identifying, preventing, and eliminating accessibility barriers to municipal goods, services, and spaces and to provide oversight on the implementation of the Eastern Shelburne County Accessibility Plan.

Eastern Shelburne County Equity & Anti-Racism Advisory Committee

The Eastern Shelburne County Equity & Anti-Racism Advisory Committee provides advice to the Municipality of Shelburne, Town of Shelburne, & Town of Lockeport on identifying, preventing, and eliminating discrimination in Municipal/Town services.

Economic Growth Strategy Committee

The Economic Growth Committee helps Council define its role in supporting economic development.

Shelburne Events Committee

The Events Committee coordinates and executes four signature events for Shelburne.
