In addition to meetings of Council, Councillors sit on a number of community boards and committees. To ensure community involvement, knowlege and understanding of the area’s priorities and challenges, our Councillors dedicate their time and effort to represent the Municipality of Shelburne on these boards and committees.

Note: The warden is ex-officio member of all committees, but is not a voting member in such capacity on advisory committees.

A meeting of a committee appointed by Council is presumptively open to the public pursuant to section 22(1) of the Municipal Government Act.

This applies whether:

  • The committee is composed entirely of councillors,
  • A mix of councillors and citizens, or
  • Citizens only.

A committee meeting may only be closed to the public where:

  • A specific statutory in camera exemption applies, and
  • Proper procedure is followed.
