Water Conservation in Preparation for Drought
In light of the potential for another drought season, we would like the public to start preparing now by conserving water and thinking of ways to be more self-sufficient in water collection.
Shelburne County East Emergency Management will continue to explore options for additional supports for sustainable access to water in our communities. As in previous years, public water collection opportunities will be made available as the need arises. Please check regularly for updates at https://www.facebook.com/shelburneemo.
We recognize that there are vulnerable individuals/households in our communities that do not have the means to address the issue on their own. We are committed to continuing to help them within reason and this assistance will be determined on a case-by-case basis. All inquiries related to special assistance should be sent directly to Mike Shand, EMO Coordinator at SCEEMO@municipalityofshelburne.ca.
Please use this flyer as a guide to support you in accessing available resources to manage and mitigate chronic water shortages. Drought conditions are expected to continue annually and may begin earlier and/last longer each year. There are some proactive activities you can do around your home to conserve water and prepare for a water shortage. Everyone is encouraged to collect rainwater by capturing downspout run off or large container collection. For a list of conservation ideas that you can do at your home, please visit https://novascotia.ca/nse/water/docs/WaterConservation.pdf
Housing Nova Scotia also offers a variety of programs for emergency repairs as well as repairs related to health and safety. More information on these programs can be found at: https://housing.novascotia.ca/programs/financial-assistance-and-grant-programs-homeowners.
If you are experiencing a low or dry well it is important to report this issue. Reporting water shortages is critical for tracking, identifying and providing community solutions. Report ALL water shortages that last longer than a few days to the local SCEEMO Coordinator:
