Waste Collection

In the Municipality of Shelburne waste is collected on a bi-weekly collection schedule. On your regularly scheduled garbage day you can place blue bags/recyclables, clear bags/regular waste, bukly items and your green cart/compost at curbside by 7 am for collection. Cardboard can be bundled for collection. 

The Municipality offers seasonal special waste collections for metal items and Christmas trees. There are also a number of additional services available to ensure residents have facilities to dispose of all their waste in accordance with the Municipality’s Solid Waste Management By-Law which, provides for the proper separation, storage, placement for pick-up, collection and disposal of all types of solid waste resources in the Municipality of the District of Shelburne.

For Christmas in 2025, The Christmas day pickup on the 25th (Thursday green, TOS South of King street) is rescheduled for December 29th, 2025. 

Special Collections

  • Spring Metal Collection – April 8th-18th, 2025
  • Fall Metal Collection – October 7th-17th, 2025

Items Permitted for Metal Collections:

  • Scrap metal
  • small metal appliance
  • barbeques
  • emptied oil barrels
  • baseboard heaters
  • lawn mowers
  • bicycles
  • and any other type of metal.

Items Not Permitted during Metal Collections:

  • household waste
  • recyclable material
  • bulkly waste items
  • tires
  • paint
  • petroleum products
  • hazardous waste
  • car parts
  • construction & demolition debris
  • wood & wooden furniture

Items must not weigh more than 70 kgs or be longer than 3 meters. All special collection items will be collected on the same day as regular waste and must be put out for pick-up not later than 7:00 a.m. on Collection Day.
