MUNICIPALITY OF SHELBURNE COUNCIL UPDATE
NOVEMBER 2009

November 25, 2009

SHELBURNE – The Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne met on November 23rd and discussed the following issues.

  • Council approved the Kids’ Fair Play FUNd committee recommendations to provide program support to 30 applicants. The Kids’ Fair Play FUNd provides financial support to children enabling them to participate in sports, recreation, and cultural opportunities.
  • The Municipality will seek funding from the Nova Scotia Government for an anti litter program in the Municipality.
  • The Municipality will be providing the Buelah Burman Memorial Animal Shelter with a $2300 grant.
  • Council has formalized the Municipal Installment Billing Policy for municipal tax collection.
  • Council has approved the expenditure of $30,000 to repair fire dry hydrants throughout the Municipality. Repairs will take place in Sable River, Jordan Bay, Gunning Cove, Carleton Village, Ingomar, and Clyde River.
  • Council has approved a $5000 grant to the Shelburne Historical Society for infrastructure upgrades to their sites.
  • The Municipality has appointed Jackie Race – Retfalvi and Stacey deMolitor to the newly formed Shelburne County East RCMP Advisory Board.
  • Council has formed a steering committee for the Sandy Point Sewage Treatment Plant Project. The mandate of the Committee is to select engineering and design services for the project and oversee the project based on the recommendations of the project manager. The CAO will Chair the committee and Council will be represented by Councillor Norm Wallet and Councillor Doris Townsend. Other committee members include the project manager, a representative of the Canada-Nova Scotia Infrastructure Secretariat, and a representative of the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment.
  • Council has agreed to send the Town of Shelburne a letter seeking clarification on ownership issues related to the Shelburne Arena.
