MUNICIPALITY OF SHELBURNE WELCOMES NEW DOCTORS TO THE AREA

November 30, 2009

SHELBURNE – The Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne is pleased to welcome two new doctors to the area. Both will be serving residents of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne and surrounding areas.

Dr. Charles Wambulwa will be a full time emergency doctor located at the Roseway Health Centre facility in the Municipality of Shelburne. He will begin his duties at Roseway for the DHA in the coming days. Dr. Wambulwa has recently moved from the United States. The Roseway facility has one of the highest emergency room closure rates in the province and Dr. Wambulwa’s recruitment will significantly address this acute problem. Residents of the Municipality will recognize an immediate impact on health care services as a result of this placement.

The Municipality will also be served by a new general practitioner in early 2010. Dr. Zia Rahman will practice out of the family medical clinic at the Roseway facility in the Municipality of Shelburne and will be taking patients in the second week of January. Dr Rahman was recruited through the Government of Nova Scotia’s CAPP Program for the most underserviced areas of the province.

The Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne identified physician recruitment as a priority in the most recent operating budget and dedicated significant resources for the purposes of physician recruitment and health care delivery. The Municipality is pleased that our recruitment efforts are having direct, tangible results in the delivery of health care services in the Municipality and surrounding areas.

The Municipality will be continuing its recruitment efforts in the coming months with hopes of recruiting more doctors to the area.
