The Municipality of Shelburne has been notified that its tender bid for property AAN 03832651, commonly known as the “Old Boy School” was successful.

Council approved the submission of the tender bid at its January 28, 2026 meeting, passing the following motion:

“That the Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne approve the recommendation of the Economic Growth Strategy Committee to use Housing Accelerator Fund 2 (HAF2) funds to prepare a tender bid for a tax sale property, as discussed in camera.”

As required under Nova Scotia’s tax sale process, the property remains subject to a six-month redemption period. During this time, the Municipality will continue to follow all legislative requirements.

If the purchase proceeds, funding from Housing Accelerator Fund 2 (HAF2) would be used for eligible costs such as the land acquisition, brownfield redevelopment (demolition of buildings), and site preparation to support future housing development.

The tender bid amount was $61,370.50, plus HST.

This decision reflects a responsible step forward to use funding to address the current unsafe conditions on the property and plan for its future, including potential housing and recreation opportunities for residents.

The Municipality will continue to keep residents informed and welcomes community interest as the process unfolds, taking a responsible approach in all next steps.
