Public Notice: Jordan River Trail Bridge Replacement Set to Begin

The Jordan River Trail Bridge will be undergoing major construction over the summer and fall months as it is scheduled to be replaced with a new bridge that will accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and off highway vehicles.

Work on site will start the week of June 29, 2026, and a section of the trail between Haydens Road and Jordan Branch Road will be closed for the duration of the project which is scheduled to be completed this December. For safety reasons it is prohibited to enter this section of the trail as it will be an active worksite with heavy machinery. Also, the trail parking area located on Haydens Road will be utilized for project operations with personnel parking and an office trailer. It will not impede public vehicle traffic on the road, but it is advised to be cautious when in that area.

The design-build tender for the new bridge was awarded to Timber Restoration Services for $3,094,000 plus HST. They will be replacing the old steel bridge with a new timber bridge and rehabilitating the piers and abutments. The project is being supported by the Municipality, Province of Nova Scotia, ACOA, and the Off Highway Vehicle Infrastructure Fund. It is scheduled to be completed by December of this year.

The new bridge will provide a key connection in the local and regional trail system, benefiting Shelburne and the surrounding areas.
