SHELBURNE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL UPDATE
JUNE 2009 MEETING
SHELBURNE- The Council for the Muncipality of the District of Shelburne held its regular meeting on Monday June 22, 2009. Council considered the following issues.

The municipality has heard from the Shelburne County Emergency Measures Organization and other stakeholders that southwestern Nova Scotia should have a Doppler weather radar station. Council will lobby Environment Canada to establish the service for the region.

Council discussed the long term requirements for solid waste management in the Municipality. Staff has been directed to seek funding for a feasibility study to properly analyze the options.

Council discussed economic development needs and the future of the Southwest Shore Regional Development Authority in the municipality. It was moved that staff will initiate discussions with the other municipalities in Shelburne County to look at alternatives for a regional development body for the area.

Council approved the expenditure of $25,000 for emergency building renovations.

Council recommended that staff begin discussions with the Town of Shelburne, and the Town of Lockeport to complete a substantial eastern Shelburne County energy strategy. The Municipality will now seek support from the other municipalities and partners, and develop a strategic framework.

Tina McKay was appointed as a qualified building inspector for the Municipality.
