MUNICIPALITY OF SHELBURNE TO SUPPORT HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS

SHELBURNE – The Council for the Municipality of Shelburne has announced a $1500 contribution to Oxfam for relief efforts in Haiti. Council approved the contribution at this month’s Regular session of Council. In discussing the issue, Council recognized the severity of the circumstances facing Haiti and the Haitian population. It was also noted that municipal units across Nova Scotia are providing some form of assistance to Haiti and it is important to support this initiative on behalf of all residents of the Municipality of Shelburne.

Other decisions approved by Council at this month’s meeting include:

  • Approval of the Region 6 Solid Waste Management budget.
  • Renewal of the partnership with the Region of Queens for the transfer of organic and recyclable waste.
  • Endorsement of the recommendation from the Joint Services Board to provide alternative service delivery for solid waste services.
  • Support for a transportation pilot project for seniors which will provide transportation services for seniors in the municipality.
  • Support for a proposal to transform the Albert Acker Field into a minor baseball facility.
  • A $5000 grant to the Black Loyalist Heritage Society.
