SHELBURNE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL
COUNCIL MEETING SUMMARY
SEPTEMBER 22, 2008
The Council of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne met for their regular meeting on September 23, 2008. Council is moving forward on the following items:
COUNCIL SUPPORTS TRI-COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD FUNDING EFFORTS.
After hearing a presentation from the Tri County School Board regarding the Nova Scotia funding formula for school boards, it was agreed that council would advocate on the Board’s behalf. We will be working with the school board moving forward.
MUNICIPALITY OF SHELBURNE TO BECOME CHARTER MEMBER OF NOVA SCOTIA’S COME TO LIFE CAMPAIGN.
Council approved a motion to join the Province of Nova Scotia’s flagship marketing campaign, COME TO LIFE. We will officially sign the agreement on October 23rd at an event in Yarmouth. There is only one other municipality, the Town of New Glasgow, who has joined the campaign.
COUNCIL SUPPORTS POOL PROPOSAL FOR THE MUNICIPALITY.
Council has agreed to contribute a $500 grant to the Shelburne County Recreation Society to undergo preliminary activities related to a proposal to develop a public pool on the site of the former CFB Shelburne. When the society has developed an operational plan, the Municipality will also contribute $1250 for an insurance plan.
COUNCIL CONTRIBUTES GRANT TO THE BEULAH BURMAN MEMORIAL ANIMAL SHELTER –
Council has approved a motion to approve a grant of $1900 for the operations of the Animal Shelter.
